What IS the unforgiveable sin?

Let us read the only passage in the Bible that talks about the unforgiveable sin; I will use the Message Version, but almost any version will give us the goods here.

Mark 3:22-30 (MSG)

22The religion scholars from Jerusalem came down spreading rumors that he was working black magic, using devil tricks to impress them with spiritual power.

23Jesus confronted their slander with a story: “Does it make sense to send a devil to catch a devil, to use Satan to get rid of Satan?

24A constantly squabbling family disintegrates. If Satan were fighting Satan, there soon wouldn’t be any Satan left. 2

5(SEE 3:24) 26(SEE 3:24) 27Do you think it’s possible in broad daylight to enter the house of an awake, able-bodied man, and walk off with his possessions unless you tie him up first? Tie him up, though, and you can clean him out.

28″Listen to this carefully. I’m warning you. There’s nothing done or said that can’t be forgiven.

29But if you persist in your slanders against God’s Holy Spirit, you are repudiating the very One who forgives, sawing off the branch on which you’re sitting, severing by your own perversity all connection with the One who forgives.” 30He gave this warning because they were accusing him of being in league with Evil.

Here at the Gospel Revolution, we often deflate Christian Teachings, but, much like the Book of Revelation, this one is a doozy, where if you read the findings of 100 different teachers, you will end up with 1000 different opinions.

Context; the context answers all our questions, concisely and clearly.

The context is that Jesus was just starting out His ministry after having chosen His twelve main disciples. He starts about healing people, whereupon the religious leaders, who were incapable of healing anybody if their lives depended on it, attempt to preserve their self-righteous dignity, by claiming that Jesus’ miracles were the result of Him working with demons.

Jesus asks them outright what sense it makes o use demons against demons, and then tells them that I thay continue to attribute to the Holy Spirit the work of demons, then that clearly identified and particular sin would not be forgiven in this age. . Mark 3:29 (YLT)… but whoever may speak evil in regard to the Holy Spirit hath not forgiveness–TO THE AGE, but is in danger of AGE-DURING JUDGMENT;’

The question then becomes, What age????? How long was this unforgiveness to last? To the end of the age!

Gal 4:4-5 (KJVA) But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

The unforgiveness for this sin was to be age during for the age of the Law.

So; what was the sin? The sin was attributing to the Holy Spirit the works of a devil, and attributing the work of a devil to God.

HOW unforgiveable was this sin? It was unforgiveable for the duration of th age of the Law.

Did the Unforgiveable Sin make it through the Cross of Christ?

If it did, then you are left to wonder what other surprises made it through. No sin made it through the cross of Christ, for where there is no law, here is no trespass. Is the Unforgiveable Sin relevant today? A resounding NO!
