This week we continue our discussion on the “Fence Laws” — laws and traditions added in an effort to ‘build a fence around the law’ in order to protect the law. However, we learn, as we look at more fence laws, that Yeshua taught against these fence laws and point out how they made the word of God of no effect.
The discussion on fence laws opens up a new discussion for us; understanding the difference between the law of God and Judaism. This week we introduce the time frame in which Judaism began – at the breaking of a covenant. At this point fence laws became a method for establishing a covenant as opposed to God’s intent for His laws to celebrate a covenant.
