You say you want a revolution? The Beatles asked that question in 1968 in their hit song. Here at the GR, we are still answering, “YES and AMEN!”
The guys open-up the show with revolution very much on their minds, blown away by all that we’ve been learning. Michael and Daniel discuss the process we have been utilizing to gain all this knowledge. We think it is none other than the Holy Spirit working within those parameters to reveal the truth to those with ears to hear (which theoretically could be everyone). Revolutionary thinking is the only way to put it!
Following-up on last week’s episode, Michael shares a verse to further show the division of thought between the accounts of the “Jesus’ ascension”. By reading John’s account of Jesus’ words to Mary after his resurrection, we get a very “gospelly” answer about the ascension.
This week we give religion “double trouble”. It’s a two-fer! You get a two-for-one special as we discuss two Commands of Christ.
The first one summarizes our entire study so far: “If you love me, keep my commandments”. The fellas look to see if Jesus’ commands are different from the commands of the law in the Old Testament. Anyone who claims they live by the teachings and commandments of Christ today or even 1,000 years from now is called-out! We discover why making that claim actually annuls the work of the Cross and all those who preceded it in preparation for the ultimate Day of the Lord.
Secondly, we examine “Watch and Pray”.
Michael starts out by asking, “What are we watching for and what are we praying for?”. We look at the literal setting of this command. It takes place in the garden before Christ’s betrayal. Then we compare this command to Romans 8. Jesus’ statement “the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak” is contrasted to Paul’s post-Cross teaching contradicting even Jesus words.
This leads Daniel to ask, “How dare we say we don’t need to follow the teachings of Christ?!”
