Celebration is the key word in this Christmastime Powercast.
A variety of conversational and topical gifts flow. We hear of Michael and Hazel marking their 51st wedding anniversary even though they are not married anymore and have not been for some time. Then Michael reminds of his coming planned “Christmas Chaos” for his family. (It may spark some creative ideas for the coming time with your group.) He also talks about the being perfectly at peace being alone. We get a preview of the coming Calgary Conference for next spring with a discussion of the “three creations” including the genetic purity of Noah and the some of the results of “the second creation” – the Flood.
Michael reiterates his sadness, and yet some anger, at the passing of Carlton Pearson, how religious folks can be some of the nicest people at places like Hobby Lobby and the Mormon Church, “but that does not justify their beliefs…Beliefs of all kinds atrophy the brain…’Nothing you say will change my mind’ frightens me,” Michael proclaims.
Then we reach into the mailbag and the guys not only address some people’s struggling with the validity of the Hebrew Scriptures, we hear Michael’s actual response and the process and structure we go through to get there.
First, what was up with Jesus making a statement that all those who came before him were thieves and liars? Does this mean the prophets and old testament priests were thieves, robbers and liars? Michael started his answer by stating this is from a parable. The guys discuss the parable as a whole and its context.
Secondly, on the mount of transfiguration, Jesus said to “listen to me”. Does this mean we shouldn’t listen to the law and the prophets (who were also present on the mountain)? Michael shares a discovery he found in the Greek wording which clarifies what Jesus was saying and fits with the context, as well.
Then these 100 minutes of “Gospel Gift-Giving” continues as we move on to part fourteen of the series “The Laws and Commands of Christ”. This week the boys examine “judge not lest you be judged”. They judge themselves on the show, too!
Michael shares a truth about this verse that may have never been stated before. You will be rejoicing when you find out what judgment exists today!
What a Christmas present!
