Once again, we are brought face to face with the obvious context that had eluded us because of the residue of our previous religious filters. Jeannie Hope has put the contextual key into our understanding by showing us the comparison of atonements. The Jews were preparing to celebrate the OT atonement, and as that holiday was near the writer encourages them to use that Yom Kippur to remind them of the final atonement that was accomplished at the cross.
