I like to believe that the writing in the sand was the fullfilling of a prophecy from Jeremiah:
O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.
If it’s original or not who knows, but the writing in sand story makes much more sense when you read this prophecy.
